Sometimes screw-ups yield nice surprises...

Seeing as how the dollar is as high as it is right now, I figured that tonight would be a nice night to go to the currency place in WEM and buy me some Euros. I reminded myself before I left the house that I had to stop at a bank and get some money first but, of course, I forgot… until I had parked at the mall, that is. I decided to get back into the car and drive to the nearest CIBC because I was fairly certain that there wasn’t one inside the mall (little tip: there is, and it’s right next to the currency place). By the time I got there and back, found a new parking spot and finished my transaction, I decided that I had better visit the facilities to avoid an uncomfortable car ride home. Were it not for this chain of events I would not have seen an old friend outside the washrooms, one I haven’t seen in a long time and was absolutely thrilled to bump into. That makes me feel pretty excited inside – that whole butterfly effect thing. But more than the excitement of the small things making a difference, I start to feel very sick about what a scatterbrain I am, and I dread having to pack my suitcases in less than 2 weeks time. Actually, the packing part might not be so bad; it will be the unpacking and realizing all the shit I’ve forgotten part that will suck. So, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me? Things that you’ve forgotten and wish you hadn’t, or things you almost forgot, but remembered in the nick of time? Anybody?

I wish I had brought a bit of my own bedding with me, as it would be a total comfort thing. One of my flatmates brought pillows and sheets with her by putting them in those vacuum bags that you suck all of the air out of, and it worked really well. So there's my reccommendation!

My big advice is this...don't sweat it. I mean, you're going to Munich, not a trek in the arctic. Anything you forget, you can always find later. Never let the stress of travelling impede the joy of it.

Elizabeth - Did those bag things really work? I watched an episode of the Shopping Bags where they tested them out and they were pretty disappointed in them. The home ones where you have to have a vacuum cleaner seemed to work okay, but the travel ones were really crappy. That's a good idea, though.
Dave - You're absolutely right. I shouldn't sweat the small stuff - as cliche as it is! But there are so many things that I have to buy when I get there because I simply can't take them with me (did I mention that may I have to stock the kitchen that is in my room?) that I don't want to waste money, on something like shoes, that I should have just brought with me in the first place, you know? But that is a comfort, thank you.
Hannah - smooth or chunky? Anything else specifically Canadian you'd like? Shreddies, maybe?

They had the home ones, I think. However, even if you don't have a vacuum that you can use in Munich, you kind a stall (try Tescos, if Germany has them) where the guy'll do it for you. Megan was really happy with her results.
